Size and Location

Set in the heart of Mesa, Arizona, Red Mountain Park covers about 1,150 acres, making it Mesa's largest park. With paved walking paths weaving around the grounds, this expansive recreational area offers both natural beauty and plenty of activities to keep you busy.

Natural Environment

The park strikes a beautiful balance between desert wilderness and developed recreational spaces. As you wander through, you'll find yourself surrounded by authentic Sonoran Desert landscapes - creosote flats dotted with mesquite and paloverde trees that create a distinctly Southwestern atmosphere.

This natural habitat is home to some fascinating wildlife. Keep your eyes peeled for the Bendire's Thrasher, a year-round resident that bird enthusiasts love to spot. You might also encounter squirrels and rabbits scampering about, or if you're particularly lucky, bald eagles perched majestically on power poles near the lake.

Lake and Fishing

The centerpiece of Red Mountain Park is undoubtedly its 7.7-acre lake. More than just a pretty view, this lake is a haven for migrating and wintering waterfowl, making it a hotspot for birdwatching.

The community fishing lake is regularly stocked with catfish, trout, bass, and sunfish. Around the lake, you'll notice some riparian habitat with cottonwood and willow trees, adding a lush contrast to the desert surroundings.

A 1.2-mile paved path encircles the lake, great for a morning jog or an evening stroll while taking in the serene water views and wildlife sightings.

Sports Facilities

Red Mountain Park offers numerous options for sports enthusiasts. The park boasts multiple fields for soccer, softball, and baseball, many with lighting for evening games.

You'll also find basketball courts, volleyball courts, tennis courts, and pickleball courts scattered throughout. For something a bit different, check out the disc golf course that winds through parts of the park, offering both fun recreational play and more challenging options for competitive players.

For relaxation and family fun, Red Mountain Park offers several amenities. Multiple covered ramadas equipped with picnic tables and BBQ grills offer perfect spots for gatherings - just remember you can reserve these for special events.

There are two separate playgrounds - one designed for younger children and another for older kids. Both feature protective shade structures (a must in the Arizona sun) and wood chip surfacing for safer play.

Dog owners can visit Remy's Dog Park, which has been recognized as one of the top dog parks in the Southern United States. Across the park, you can find thoughtful touches for four-legged visitors, including water bowls near drinking fountains and waste stations with bags.

Red Mountain Park is accessible from major roads and highways and offers plenty of parking throughout. The park welcomes visitors from sunrise until 10 p.m., giving you plenty of time to enjoy all it has to offer. Clean restrooms are conveniently located at multiple spots across the park.
