About the Location
A Desert Park for Everyone
Situated in the heart of Tucson lies Morris K. Udall Park, a sprawling 173-acre oasis named after the renowned Arizona Congressman. This expansive neighborhood park features scenic mountain views that create a beautiful backdrop to your daily activities. We've found these vistas to be absolutely worth the trip alone!
The park unfolds across beautifully maintained grounds, with well-maintained sports fields and expansive turf areas well-suited for impromptu games or peaceful picnics. One of our favorite features is the walking and running path that winds through the property - ideal for morning jogs or evening strolls while soaking in the unique Sonoran Desert landscape. Thankfully, mature trees scatter throughout the park, offering welcome shade during those famous Arizona sunny days.
Get Your Game On
For sports enthusiasts, the park offers plenty of options with multiple soccer fields where local teams regularly practice and compete. Many fields have comfortable bleachers nestled under shady trees - ideal for cheering on your favorite players without melting in the sun.
Baseball and softball enthusiasts will find well-kept baseball and softball fields ready for everything from casual practice to organized league play.
Looking for something different? The excellent pickleball courts have developed quite a following among locals. There are also quality tennis courts and volleyball courts available when you're ready to switch up your exercise routine.
Kid-Friendly Fun
Families will find a nicely shaded playground south of the community center where children can climb and explore. On those scorching summer days, the adjacent splash pad near the pool area becomes an excellent cooling station for energetic kiddos.
Four-Legged Friends Welcome
Dog lovers will appreciate the thoughtfully designed dog park with separate sections for small and large pups. Both areas are fenced, well-lit, and equipped with water stations for thirsty dogs and seating for their humans. While the large dog space offers plenty of room to run, the small dog area is cozier but still functional. Many visitors also enjoy taking their leashed companions for walks along the park's many paths.
Picnic Paradise
Planning a gathering? The park features several nice ramadas available for reservation. These covered picnic areas provide perfect spots to enjoy outdoor meals or simply relax in the shade while watching the world go by.
Community Hub
At the heart of the park stands the Morris K. Udall Center, a recreation facility that acts as a community focal point. This center complements the outdoor amenities and hosts various activities and events throughout the year, bringing neighbors together.
Wild at Heart
In the southern section of the park, you'll discover a surprising natural area - a large creosote forest crisscrossed with walking trails. It's fascinating to think this was once a landfill, now transformed into a space where you can experience a slice of authentic Sonoran Desert ecology.
Morris K. Udall Park provides a recreational space for Tucson residents, combining natural desert beauty with amenities for both team sports and quiet moments. As a bonus, the park connects to the Tucson Loop trail, making it easily accessible for cyclists and other trail enthusiasts exploring the broader Tucson landscape.
