About the Location
Something for Everyone
Railroad Park is a neighborhood favorite with all the essential amenities. You can find plenty of picnic areas scattered throughout, complete with tables and BBQ grills - meant for everything from impromptu weekend lunches to full-on family gatherings. There's also a large covered pavilion that's great for celebrations or simply escaping the California sun on particularly hot days.
What's particularly thoughtful about this park is its wheelchair-friendly design. The paths are accessible, and there's even an adaptive swing in the playground area for children with disabilities, so everyone gets to join in the fun.
Play and Movement
If you're bringing kids along, you're in luck. Railroad Park features two distinct playground zones - one designed specifically for the toddler crowd and another with more challenging equipment for older children. Both areas have shade canopies (a true blessing during summer months), and the equipment ranges from classic slides and swings to a small zipline that's always a hit. Just note that weekends and after-school hours can get pretty busy.
One of our favorite aspects of Railroad Park is the paved walking/biking trail that runs along the eastern edge. It's good for a casual stroll or a more energetic bike ride. And cyclists, you'll appreciate the thoughtful touch of a repair station complete with tools and a tire pump. No matter if you're looking to get your steps in or just want to enjoy some fresh air, this trail adds real value to the park experience.
Comfort and Greenery
The landscape here strikes a nice balance between open spaces and shaded areas. Mature trees are dotted throughout, creating natural cooling spots that make even hot Clovis days bearable. The generous green spaces invite impromptu frisbee games or just lounging with a good book.
For practical matters, the park maintains clean restroom facilities and drinking fountains that actually work - not always a given in public parks! The bathrooms are reliably open during park hours and kept in decent condition.
Little Extras
Dog owners will be happy to know that Railroad Park is dog-friendly, however your four-legged friends need to stay leashed. You'll come across pet waste bag stations positioned strategically around the grounds, making cleanup convenient.
If you have little ones learning to ride bikes or skate, the flat, smooth sidewalks provide a safe practice area away from traffic. Parking is street-side only - mainly along Peach Avenue and neighboring streets - but it's usually not difficult to find a spot unless there's a special event happening.
With its mix of recreational options, practical amenities, and natural beauty, Railroad Park welcomes people of all ages and interests.
