About the Location
Park Overview
Located next to E. Cache La Poudre Street in Colorado Springs, Betty Krouse Park is a charming 2.4-acre local space that offers a breath of fresh air from city life. We were surprised by how this modest green space manages to feel like a genuine escape - the well-kept grass and beautiful trees create an unexpectedly quiet pocket within the urban landscape.
There's a bit of local history here too. The park honors Betty Krouse, a trailblazing figure who dedicated 12 years to the Colorado Springs City Council and broke barriers as the first woman to serve as vice mayor. Pretty impressive legacy for this peaceful little retreat!
Recreational Amenities
Whether you're looking to break a sweat or just let the kids burn off some energy, the park offers options for both active play and relaxed lounging.
Sports enthusiasts will appreciate the well-maintained basketball court that's become something of a neighborhood favorite. The open spaces also accommodate casual games of baseball and soccer when you're in the mood for some friendly competition.
If you've got little ones in tow, the playground is primarily geared toward younger children. One standout feature that caught our eye is the old-school merry-go-round - a nostalgic throwback that both kids and parents seem to love. It's refreshing to see this classic piece of playground equipment still bringing joy in an age of modern play structures.
Park Features
Need a spot for lunch or a small gathering? The park's pavilion comes equipped with picnic tables and welcome shade. You can find additional tables scattered around, but be aware that some sit in full sun - great on cooler days, less ideal during summer heat.
The mature trees within the park are honestly one of its best features. They provide generous shade during hot days and put on a gorgeous display of colors come autumn. These leafy giants help make the park feel like a genuine retreat.
Walking paths weave through the grounds, excellent for a casual stroll or walking your four-legged friend. Dog lovers take note - your pups are welcome here, but they'll need to stay leashed at all times.
Visitor Information
A quick heads-up about parking - it can be a bit tight around the park. You'll have better luck finding a spot on Dale Street rather than directly on Cache La Poudre Street.
Note that there are no public restrooms available, so you might want to plan accordingly if you're thinking of a longer visit.
With good lighting after dark and its friendly neighborhood setting, Betty Krouse Park offers a lovely low-key alternative to some of Colorado Springs' busier outdoor spaces. It's not trying to be the biggest or most impressive park in town - and that's precisely part of its charm.
