About the Location

Sports Facilities

Ray Ross Park offers a nice variety of sports facilities for your recreational needs. The park has multiple sports fields, including three baseball/softball fields and two football/soccer fields - all with lighting for those evening games when the Colorado sun has already set.

If basketball is more your speed, you'll come across courts ready for a pickup game. One thing we've noticed is that the baseball and softball facilities have surprisingly sturdy fencing compared to most parks - a small detail that makes a big difference if you're worried about foul balls! Looking to organize a league or practice? The fields are available to rent, making this a go-to spot for local teams.

Water Features

The baseball-themed splash pad is easily one of the coolest features at Ray Ross Park. Designed to look like a baseball diamond, this interactive water play area welcomes kids of all ages during the summer months (weather permitting, of course).

The best part? It's completely free to use! Various fountain types spray and splash, providing a fantastic escape on those hot summer days. Just note that hours can change with the seasons, and occasionally it might close for maintenance - so it's worth checking before promising the kids a water day.

Picnic Areas

There are two park shelters equipped with grills for picnics. The first shelter offers eight tables and two grills, while the newer shelter, built in 2020, provides six tables and three grills.

These shelters work on a first-come, first-served basis during park hours - no reservations accepted. The picnic areas provide plenty of space, with both fixed tables and open areas where you can set up your own chairs if you prefer.

Playground and Amenities

For families with little ones, the playground area, while not massive, offers enough features to keep younger children entertained. It nicely complements the other activities available throughout the park.

As for restrooms, you'll find permanent facilities near the concession stand and ball fields on the east side of the parking lot, typically open from mid-April to mid-October. During the colder months, portable toilets are available near the shelters and playground - always good to know when you're planning a longer visit!

Walking Trails and Layout

The walking trails at Ray Ross Park offer easy, leisurely routes winding through the grounds - nothing challenging, but well-suited for a casual stroll or a quick exercise loop. Mature trees scattered throughout provide welcome shade spots, especially appreciated during those sunny Colorado days.

While Ray Ross isn't the largest park in the area, its thoughtful layout makes good use of the space, efficiently fitting in multiple recreational options. This makes it an ideal spot whether you're looking to play a game, cool off at the splash pad, or simply enjoy a peaceful afternoon outdoors.
