About Canopy Park

Green Oasis by the Bay

Tucked between the 600 and 700 blocks of Alton Road, Canopy Park is Miami Beach's newest breathing space - a three-acre slice of green that is both a welcoming gateway to the city and a refreshing escape from urban intensity.

Designed by ArquitectonicaGEO, this park combines aesthetics with environmental consciousness. With nearly 40 different plant and tree species (including 221 newly planted trees and 121 palms), the landscape showcases Florida's natural beauty. About 80% of these plants are native to the area, and they're all selected to thrive without excessive maintenance or water - well-suited for those scorching Miami summers.

A Touch of Wild Florida

The Maritime Hammock anchoring the north end of the park might be our favorite spot. It's a loving recreation of the tropical forests that once covered Miami Beach before, well, Miami Beach happened. Beyond providing much-needed shade, these dense trees work overtime - capturing carbon, filtering air toxins, and cooling down the surrounding area. They've also become unexpected urban wildlife condos, hosting birds, bats, and all sorts of pollinators.

The park's designers didn't just think about what's above ground - they went deep with bioswales and a massive 25,000-gallon cistern that collects rainwater. This smart system captures about 90% of stormwater before it can reach Biscayne Bay, protecting those delicate wild grasses and native species from urban runoff.

Play and Relaxation

Children will enjoy the playground designed by Danish firm MONSTRUM, which creates playscapes that blend art with play elements. The highlight? A slide that pays homage to Rosie the Elephant, who helped put Miami Beach on the luxury map back in the 1920s. Just a heads-up: on sunny days, the playground equipment - especially those metal surfaces - can get pretty hot, so morning play might be your best bet during summer.

The park's contemporary design creates a clean, visually pleasing environment, though you might want to seek out the shadier spots during peak sunshine hours. If you're visiting during summer, consider coming early in the day when temperatures are more forgiving.

Pup-Approved

Dog owners have quickly claimed Canopy Park as a favorite spot. The clean, open spaces provide plenty of room for your four-legged friends to stretch their legs while you soak in the landscaped surroundings.

Urban Sanctuary

What we appreciate about Canopy Park is how it offers a sense of seclusion despite its central Miami Beach location. The layout creates quiet areas where city noise diminishes, giving way to natural sounds of leaves and birds.

Connected City

Canopy Park is set to become even more valuable with plans to connect it to Miami Beach's South of Fifth neighborhood via a new pedestrian bridge spanning the MacArthur Causeway/5th Street. This connection will complete the Miami Beach Baywalk, creating a seamless path from South Pointe Park north to the Lincoln Road District and east to the beachfront. It's part of a bigger vision to make Miami Beach more walkable and connected - something we can all appreciate in a city known more for its traffic than its pedestrian-friendly design.
