About the Location
River Views That Calm the Soul
Next to the Hillsborough River in Tampa's Seminole Heights neighborhood, Epps Park is that quiet touch of nature you didn't know you needed. This slender green space stretches about half a mile from West Fern Street up to where North River Boulevard meets West Thomas Street - not massive, but just enough to clear your head.
The highlight has to be those Hillsborough River views that give you a break from the city bustle. If you're timing things right, swing by just before sunset when the water catches the light in ways that even your phone camera can't quite capture.
Simple Pleasures
Epps Park is fairly low-key. You won't find elaborate playgrounds or sports facilities here - which some visitors find appealing. Benches dot the riverside, meant for those moments when you just need to sit and watch the water flow by.
The park maintains its natural beauty with trash cans and dog waste bag dispensers placed thoughtfully throughout. It's nothing fancy, but the combination of grassy patches and shade trees creates that perfect backdrop for a moment of peace in your otherwise hectic day.
A Park With Purpose
There's meaning behind this tranquil space - Epps Park honors the memory of Norris Epps Jr, a fallen police officer. Situated in Old Seminole Heights' Riverbend area, it sits beside a marina with roots going back to 1845.
What's special about this spot is how it's remained relatively unchanged over the years, a little pocket of nature that development has largely passed by.
Where Neighbors Become Friends
Despite its quiet nature, Epps Park has a way of bringing people together. The local community pitches in during clean-up events organized through Keep Tampa Bay Beautiful, and every Saturday morning, you'll spot the Seminole Heights Dog Pack Walks making their way through.
Dog owners particularly appreciate this little haven - it's become something of an unofficial dog-walking hotspot. Yet even with its popularity, you'll rarely feel crowded out here. It manages to be both a social spot and a quiet retreat.
Know Before You Go
Keep in mind that Epps Park is nestled in a residential area with limited parking options, and you won't find restrooms here. The walking path is brief - a leisurely 10-minute stroll from end to end - making it excellent for a quick nature break rather than an all-day excursion.
Note that you might spot wildlife along the way, including alligators in the river (yes, real Florida living!). The park welcomes visitors daily from 7AM to 7PM, working equally well for your morning coffee walk or that end-of-day wind-down.
