Baggley Park
About Baggley Park
Park Overview
Situated in Boise, Idaho, Baggley Park spreads across a comfortable 8 acres, offering a little slice of nature and recreation right in the city. This community green has something for just about everyone, whether you're looking to break a sweat or simply unwind under the shade of a tree.
One of the park's best features is its direct access to the Boise River Greenbelt. You can easily hop from the park onto this popular pathway that winds along the river through the heart of Boise, connecting your park experience to miles of additional exploration.
History
The City of Boise acquired this green space back in 1977 through the Land and Water Conservation Act. Locals initially called it Loggers Creek Park, but that was just its unofficial nickname.
In 1990, the park got its official name honoring George Baggley, a dedicated community member who spent 14 years on the Boise City Board of Park and Recreation Commissioners and also contributed his time to the Boise River Greenbelt Committee. His passion for public spaces lives on in this lovely park.
Recreational Facilities
If you're feeling active, Baggley Park offers several sporting options. The tennis courts do double duty, also accommodating the increasingly popular game of pickleball. There are basketball courts for pickup games and a sand volleyball court meant for casual matches on sunny afternoons.
Families will appreciate the thoughtfully designed playground area with equipment for different age groups. The little ones (ages 2-5) have their own appropriate structures, while older kids (5-12) can enjoy more challenging play equipment and swings.
Not in the mood for organized activities? The park's open grassy areas invite impromptu frisbee games, picnic blankets, or just stretching out with a good book. Speaking of picnics, there are nice picnic facilities scattered around the park, many nestled in the shade of mature trees.
Amenities and Accessibility
During warmer months, you'll discover restrooms and drinking fountains available during your visit - just note that these typically close during winter when the temperatures drop.
The park designers have kept accessibility in mind, with paved pathways and ADA-compliant parking spots making the space welcoming to all visitors. The gates are open from 7:00 AM to 9:30 PM on weekdays, with slightly extended hours on weekends (7:30 AM to 10:00 PM).
Visitor Experience
Baggley Park has earned a reputation for its well-maintained grounds and peaceful atmosphere. The shade trees are particularly welcome during Idaho's warm summer days, creating cool spots to relax.
On any given day, you might spot locals walking their dogs along the paths, families enjoying lunch at the picnic tables, or friends gathering for a casual game of volleyball. Its connection to the Greenbelt makes it a fantastic pit stop for cyclists exploring Boise's extensive trail system - a place to catch your breath before continuing your journey along the river.
