Park Overview

Tucked away in Springfield, Illinois, Center Park offers a piece of natural tranquility within the city limits. This public recreational area belongs to the Springfield Park District, which has quite the history - established back in 1900 as only the second park district organized in Illinois.

The Beach House isn't just picturesque - it's designed with wheelchair-accessible upper levels and terraces so everyone can enjoy the views. If you head behind the main play and picnic area, you'll discover Center Park Harbor with its wheelchair-accessible docks and fishing piers. It's refreshing to see a place where mobility limitations don't have to limit your fishing adventures.

Playground and Recreation

Kids (and let's be honest, adults too) will love the Bounties of Nature playground. Opened in March 2015, this woodland and water-themed play area isn't your average jungle gym. It's ADA-compliant and thoughtfully designed so that children and caregivers of all physical abilities can play together - no one gets left out of the fun.

For the sports enthusiasts, the park doesn't disappoint with its five softball diamonds and a volleyball sand pit that's great for casual games or organized tournaments.

Water Activities

For boating enthusiasts, the park has a boat launch that's especially suitable for sailboats, though it accommodates other watercraft as well. Located just north of the Beach House, this launch is wheelchair accessible too.

Picnic Areas

Center Park offers various picnic spots and pavilions for gatherings. You can choose between two cozy pavilions near the Beach House - each fantastic for small gatherings of 10-15 people - or opt for the specially designed pavilion next to accessible restrooms that's ideal for visitors using wheelchairs or with other mobility needs.
