About the Location
Park Overview
Found in Portland's Cedar Hills neighborhood, Ridgewood View Park spans a modest 6.72 acres just east of Highway 217. You can easily find it off SW Ardenwood Street, where this retreat awaits with its interesting split personality: a serene forested southern half and an inviting open grassy lawn to the north. A short loop trail winds around the park's edges, meant for a quick stroll through both the wooded sanctuary and sunny open spaces.
2016 Transformation
In 2016, the park got a serious makeover when the Tualatin Valley Water District expanded an underground reservoir at the site. This wasn't just a utility project - it completely refreshed the park's amenities and gave the whole space a new lease on life.
Recreation Amenities
The revitalized park has two fully fenced tennis courts alongside Portland district's first-ever pickleball courts, perched atop the water reservoir building with views of Beaverton - not a bad backdrop for your serve! If slower-paced games are more your style, there's also a bocce ball court waiting for your next match.
Families with kids will appreciate the nature-themed play area where slides, climbing nets, swings, and a rope bridge sit atop forgiving rubber turf. While the playground sweet spot is for kids between 5-13 years old, we've noticed younger adventurers having just as much fun scrambling around. The massive rocks and logs scattered throughout aren't just for show - they're additional playthings that enhance the natural vibe.
When hunger strikes, you can claim the small covered picnic shelter with tables, grab one of several uncovered tables, or simply throw a blanket on the generous lawn space. The walking trails offer beyond exercise - take the peaceful wooded path for a moment of zen, or tackle the stairs if you're feeling ambitious about your step count for the day.
Accessibility and Facilities
Parking is limited to a small lot with three regular spaces and two handicap spots, but additional street parking isn't hard to find nearby. Those with mobility concerns will appreciate the wheelchair-accessible ramp leading to the tennis courts.
As for restrooms, there's a seasonal porta-potty near the parking area - basic but functional. Dog parents, take note: your leashed companions are welcome across the park, and there are waste bag stations conveniently located at the entrance.
Hidden Infrastructure
What makes Ridgewood View particularly fascinating is what lies beneath your feet. While you're enjoying a casual game or picnic, you're actually standing above an impressive 8-million-gallon water reservoir and an 11-million-gallon-per-day pump station. It's a practical use of space that combines the community's recreational needs with critical utility infrastructure.
