About the Location
Park Overview
Tucked away in Bellevue, Washington, Newport Hills Woodlawn Park is a breath of fresh air in the suburban landscape. This 13.7-acre spot combines forests with open spaces and is popular with families, fitness enthusiasts, and dog owners looking for quality outdoor time.
Natural Features
The park's 10.7 acres of forested trails offer plenty of space to enjoy nature. Whether you're in the mood for a leisurely stroll on the paved perimeter path or feeling a bit more adventurous on the secluded woodland trails, there's a great route waiting for you. When you're ready to spread out, the 3-acre open lawn provides plenty of room to toss a frisbee, enjoy a picnic, or simply lie back and cloud-watch.
The 1.25-acre off-leash dog area is where your dogs can run and play freely. Thoughtfully divided into separate sections for large and small dogs, both areas come equipped with benches for humans to rest while pups play. Your four-legged companions will appreciate the water fountains for staying hydrated, waste bag dispensers for cleanup, and even a hose to rinse off muddy paws before the car ride home.
Development History
This park didn't appear overnight. It took shape through a series of land acquisitions starting in 2010, with more parcels added in 2015 and 2019. The community played a big role in making this space happen, with funding partially coming from the 2008 voter-approved Parks and Natural Areas Levy - proving that Bellevue residents value their green spaces.
The park underwent quite the transformation before fully opening, with the off-leash dog area being one of the final pieces to fall into place.
Amenities
Kids will be drawn to the unique playground featuring whimsical, organic-shaped equipment that sparks imagination and exploration. Not to be left out, adults can get their heart rates up at the dedicated fitness area featuring adult exercise equipment with various strength training machines.
Planning a gathering? The picnic shelter comes complete with BBQ grills for cookouts and celebrations. It's also a welcome refuge during typical Pacific Northwest drizzles or for shade on those rare scorching summer days.
If you're looking to get your steps in, the park offers loop trails of different lengths. Choose between paved paths for an easier walk or natural surface trails for a more rustic experience.
No need to cut your visit short when nature calls - clean restroom facilities are available on-site. The family-friendly unisex bathrooms include sinks and soap to wash up after your outdoor adventures.
Special Features
As you wander the grounds, you'll notice large stones scattered across the park, adding character and visual interest to the landscape. These natural elements blend perfectly with the overall design, creating a space that feels both intentional and organic.
In the dog park, wood chip sections help keep the mud situation under control during wet seasons. That said, you might still want to bring towels and wipes during the rainy months - this is the Pacific Northwest, after all!
