About the Location
River Views in the Heart of Downtown
Nestled along the Fox River in downtown Green Bay, Leicht Memorial Park offers a breath of fresh air amid the urban landscape. This nearly 8-acre waterfront space offers excellent views of downtown Green Bay and the boat traffic on the river.
Despite being just steps away from the bustling businesses on Broadway and other downtown spots, there's something wonderfully calming about sitting by the water here - a little pocket of tranquility in the middle of city life.
A Gift to Green Bay
The park came to life when the Leicht Transfer & Storage Company donated 2.59 acres of land, with Russell Leicht asking that it bear the Leicht Memorial Park name. Its riverside location makes it a popular gathering place for the community.
Things to Do
During summer, Leicht Park becomes a venue for festivals and concerts held on its green spaces. On quieter days, these same grassy areas are well-suited for spreading out a picnic blanket, kicking a soccer ball around, or simply lounging by the water with a good book.
Fishing enthusiasts flock here, casting their lines along the Fox River in hopes of a good catch. As evening approaches, the park becomes an ideal spot to watch boats glide by and observe river wildlife, with dusk offering particularly nice views of the waterfront.
A walking path meanders through the park, well-suited for a leisurely waterfront stroll. And since it's right in downtown Green Bay, you can easily incorporate a park visit into your day exploring the city.
Community Celebrations
Year-round, Leicht Park buzzes with community events. The Sunday evening concerts are a summer highlight, with live music from 4:00-6:30 PM and vendors selling tasty food and drinks.
The calendar also features spectacular fireworks displays, creative igNight Markets, the lively Draft City Music Festival, and visits from majestic tall ships that sometimes open for tours. Cultural celebrations add to the mix, including events featuring Native American dancing and diverse performances.
Though primarily open space, the park's riverfront is dotted with benches where you can sit and soak in the waterfront atmosphere. While there aren't permanent restrooms within the park, nearby businesses are generally accommodating to visitors.
Good to Know
For maximum comfort, bring along chairs, coolers, and blankets - especially if you're planning to attend an event or spend a few hours riverside. Your four-legged friends are welcome too, as long as they stay leashed.
The park embraces simplicity with its open layout, focusing on providing accessible green space along the water rather than lots of amenities. Note that you won't find playground equipment or permanent restrooms here, so plan accordingly for your visit.
