About Discovery Park in Gilbert
Discovery District Park is a 48-acre public recreation area located in Gilbert, Arizona. The park, which opened in 2006, offers a diverse range of outdoor activities and amenities for visitors of all ages. Situated at the northwest corner of Santan Village Parkway and Pecos Road, the park provides a serene environment for both active and passive recreation.
The park features two lakes that use reclaimed water, adding a picturesque element to the landscape and providing opportunities for fishing as part of the community fishing program. The park's layout includes a network of multi-use trails, allowing visitors to enjoy walks, jogs, or bike rides throughout the grounds. These trails also accommodate equestrians, making the park accessible to a variety of outdoor enthusiasts.
For sports enthusiasts, Discovery District Park offers five multi-use fields, three of which are illuminated for evening use. The park also includes two lighted basketball courts and two lighted sand volleyball courts, providing ample space for team sports and recreational games. A small playground area with climbing rocks and swings is available for younger visitors, though it's worth noting that the playground facilities are not the park's primary focus.
The park caters well to group gatherings and events with its eight reservable ramadas. These include three large group ramadas, each equipped with nine tables, grills, and power outlets, and five smaller picnic ramadas, each featuring two tables, grills, and power access. These facilities make the park an ideal location for picnics, family reunions, or community events.
Discovery District Park also incorporates educational elements, featuring a butterfly garden and a learning path that adds an interactive dimension to visits. The park's name itself has historical significance, as it was chosen to commemorate the discovery of Columbian Mammoth fossils near the site during its construction.
With over 400 parking spaces available, including accessible parking, the park ensures easy access for visitors. The park is open daily from 5:30 AM to 10:00 PM, providing ample opportunity for community members to enjoy its facilities throughout the day.
