About McCormick Stillman Railroad Park in Scottsdale
The McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park is a unique 30-acre park located in the heart of Scottsdale, Arizona. Operated by the city's Parks & Recreation Department, this park offers a distinctive railroad-themed experience for visitors of all ages.
The park's centerpiece is the Paradise & Pacific Railroad, a 5/12ths scale reproduction of a Colorado narrow gauge railroad. Visitors can take a leisurely one-mile ride around the park on this miniature train, passing by various landmarks and attractions.
One of the park's main features is the 10,000-square-foot model railroad building, which houses multiple model railroad displays of different gauges. The building includes interactive displays, model railroad information, and three art pieces. Its unique design allows for easy viewing by children and people in wheelchairs.
The park also includes historical exhibits such as the Roald Amundsen Pullman Car, which was used by four U.S. presidents from Herbert Hoover to Dwight D. Eisenhower. This car, along with other historical railroad artifacts, can be viewed in the Scottsdale Railroad Museum located within the park.
For younger visitors, the park offers two playgrounds. One has a railway theme near the park entrance, while the other is designed as an iconic Western Town along the railroad tracks.
The park is open year-round, with varying hours depending on the season. While admission to the park itself is free, there are small fees for some attractions like the train ride and carousel.
