Kiwanis Park is a sprawling 125-acre public park located in central Tempe, Arizona. Established in 1972, the park was named after the Kiwanis Club, which donated funds for its development. The park features a 12-acre lake that serves as a focal point for many activities and offers a serene backdrop for visitors.
The park is designed to accommodate a wide range of recreational pursuits. It includes multiple playgrounds catering to different age groups, with both older and newer equipment. The north playground, while older, benefits from ample shade, while the south playground features more modern amenities including rubber flooring for increased accessibility.
One of the park's standout features is "The Cloud," a 5,000-square-foot splash pad located at the north end. This water attraction, crowned by a signature blue canopy resembling a cloud, offers various water features including loops, hoops, and swizzle sticks. It even features a storm sequence complete with thunderous sound effects, providing a unique and refreshing experience for visitors during the hot Arizona summers.
Kiwanis Park is also home to a 54,000-square-foot recreation center. This facility houses an indoor wave pool and water slide, a fitness center, a full-size gymnasium, multi-purpose meeting rooms, and a 15-court tennis center. The park's extensive sports facilities make it a hub for athletic activities in the community.
For those who enjoy water activities, the park's lake offers opportunities for fishing and boating. Visitors can rent kayaks, pedal boats, or surrey bikes to explore the lake.
