About Friendship Park in Yuma
Friendship Park is located in Yuma, Arizona, adjacent to a golf course. The park features a prominent water tower that serves as a local landmark. Constructed in the 1960s, the water tank has undergone renovations to maintain its functionality and appearance.
The park provides a welcoming environment for outdoor activities and community gatherings. Its location next to a golf course offers scenic views and a pleasant atmosphere for visitors. The centerpiece of the park is the 2-million-gallon hydropillar water tank, which is notable for being one of the few elevated water tanks in the southwestern United States.
In 2003, the City of Yuma Public Works Department undertook a project to repaint the water tower, addressing the wear caused by the harsh desert sun and heat. The renovation involved lead abatement and the application of a new coating system, which included zinc-rich primer, polyurethane intermediate coat, and a fluoropolymer finish. This new coating system was chosen for its durability and long-term performance in the challenging desert environment.
The park's landscape includes open spaces suitable for various recreational activities. It serves as a public space for the residents of Yuma to enjoy outdoor leisure time.
