Contra Loma Regional Park is a 780-acre oasis located in Antioch, California. The park features an 80-acre reservoir that serves as its centerpiece, offering year-round fishing opportunities and a lifeguarded swim lagoon for summertime recreation.
The park's diverse landscape includes rolling hills, lush vegetation, and scenic views, making it an ideal destination for hiking, biking, and nature study. Visitors can explore the park's trail system, which connects to the larger Delta de Anza Trail, extending 15+ miles from Oakley to Concord.
Contra Loma's swim lagoon is a popular summer attraction, featuring a sandy beach, changing rooms, and a refreshment stand. The lagoon is staffed with lifeguards during the summer months and includes an accessible pool lift for visitors with disabilities.
For fishing enthusiasts, the reservoir contains a variety of fish species, including catfish, black and striped bass, bluegill, trout, and red-eared sunfish. A Daily District Fishing Permit is required and can be purchased at the park entry kiosk.
The park also offers numerous picnic areas, many of which are reservable for group events. These areas provide shady spots for visitors to relax and enjoy meals while taking in the park's natural beauty.
Contra Loma Regional Park has a rich history, with the land once being home to the Julpun people, who spoke the Bay Miwok language. Today, the park serves as an important habitat for local wildlife and a wintering ground for migratory waterfowl.
