Hart Memorial Park

Hart Memorial Park is a prominent recreational area located eight miles northeast of Bakersfield, California, along the Kern River. Established in 1921 and originally named Kern River Park, it was renamed in 1947 to honor County Supervisor John Hart, who spearheaded its development. The park spans 370 acres and serves as the centerpiece of the larger 1,012-acre Kern River County Park complex.

The park features two lakes covering a combined area of 10 acres, offering opportunities for fishing. Anglers can catch trout, catfish, and bass, though a state fishing license is required. The park's natural environment provides habitat for diverse wildlife, including kit foxes, possums, raccoons, beavers, muskrats, skunks, white egrets, blue herons, and various duck species.

Hart Memorial Park is a popular destination for picnicking, with numerous individual and group spots equipped with tables and grills scattered throughout the grounds. The park opens daily from 5:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., allowing visitors to enjoy its amenities throughout the day.
