About Terrace View Park in Berkeley
Terrace View Park is a small neighborhood park located in the Berkeley hills between Fairlawn and Queens Way. Spanning 0.71 acres (30,900 square feet), this multi-level park offers a variety of recreational opportunities for visitors of all ages.
The City of Berkeley acquired the land for Terrace View Park in 1950-1951, dedicating it on October 30, 1951. An additional parcel was purchased in 1956 to expand the playground area. The park is comprised of three distinct levels, each offering different amenities and experiences.
On the Queens Way level, visitors will find two basketball courts, providing space for sports enthusiasts. The mid-level of the park features a picnic area, a lawn, and a play area for older children, complete with swings and three turning bars. The upper level, accessible from the Fairlawn entrance, houses a Tot Lot with a play structure for younger children.
In 1995, the Friends of Terrace View Park utilized a City mini-grant to add a new play structure to the Tot Lot. This addition includes a small slide, sandbox, three tot swings, and two concrete tunnels, enhancing the park's appeal for families with young children.
Terrace View Park's hillside location offers visitors a sense of nature within an urban setting. The park is home to various wildlife, including squirrels and deer, and features redwood trees that provide ample shade. This combination of recreational facilities and natural elements makes Terrace View Park a popular destination for local residents seeking outdoor activities or a peaceful retreat.
The park is open daily from 6 am to 10 pm, allowing ample time for visitors to enjoy its facilities. However, parking is limited, with only a few spots available on Queens Road, which can fill up quickly on weekends.
