About Thousand Oaks School Park in Berkeley
Thousand Oaks School Park is a 2.6-acre public space in Berkeley, California. The park is owned by the Berkeley Unified School District (BUSD) and maintained by the City of Berkeley through a joint-use agreement.
The park offers public access to its tot lot, which was originally developed by BUSD in 1950. In the late 1990s, the tot play area was redesigned and constructed with the help of volunteers from the Thousand Oaks Parks Society (TOPS).
Thousand Oaks School Park features a mix of recreational facilities suitable for various age groups. The park includes a play structure for younger children, as well as areas that cater to older kids and adults. A small creek runs along the edge of the park, providing a natural element for exploration.
The park's location near Solano Avenue makes it convenient for families to combine a park visit with other activities, such as grabbing a coffee or picking up sandwiches for a picnic. However, visitors should note that there are no public restroom facilities within the park itself.
On weekends, when school is not in session, the adjacent Thousand Oaks Elementary School grounds become accessible, offering additional flat space that can be used for activities like practicing scooter or bicycle skills.
