About Rotary Park in Chico
Rotary Centennial Park is a neighborhood park located in the northeast area of Chico, California. The park was established in 2020-2021 on a five-acre lot that had been set aside for three decades as the site for a future neighborhood park. Its development was spurred by population growth in Chico, including an influx of new residents following the 2018 Camp Fire and the construction of new homes and apartments in the area.
The park was named Rotary Centennial Park to honor 100 years of Rotary in Butte County, reflecting the ongoing commitment and support from both the Noon Rotary and Sunrise Rotary clubs in Chico. The Chico Area Recreation and Park District (CARD) oversaw the park's development with support from local Rotary clubs.
One of the key features of Rotary Centennial Park is its playground equipment. The Rotary Club of Chico Sunrise funded and assisted with the installation of a substantial piece of playground equipment - a sophisticated and safe Climbing Spinner designed for younger children. This equipment was selected to encourage outdoor exercise and help children build leg and upper body strength in a safe manner.
In 2023, the park saw further improvements with the dedication of the Ann Willmann Playground, named after the former CARD General Manager who played a crucial role in the park's development. This addition transformed what was once an overgrown, empty lot into a beautiful community space.
