Lake Wohlford Park

Lake Wohlford Park is located in the northeastern hills of Escondido, California, centered around a 146-acre reservoir that shares its name. The park offers a semi-rural setting approximately an hour from San Diego and 12 minutes from Valley Center. Lake Wohlford has been a protected source of Escondido's drinking water since 1895, making it a vital resource for the local community.

The park is open seasonally, with full-week operations from early December to early September and weekend-only access from early September to early December. Fishing hours at Lake Wohlford are from 6 am to dusk. The lake is regularly stocked with trout and catfish, making it a popular destination for anglers. Notably, Lake Wohlford has a history of producing exceptionally large largemouth bass, including some over 19 pounds, which is rare worldwide.

While swimming is prohibited due to the lake's status as a reservoir, visitors can enjoy boating and fishing activities. The surrounding area offers opportunities for hiking, with trails that provide scenic views of the lake and the surrounding landscape.
