About Cannery Park in Hayward
Cannery Park is a public recreational area located in Hayward, California. The park was established on the site of the former Hunt Brothers Cannery, which operated from 1896 to 1978 and was once the world's largest cannery. In 1993, the Hayward Area Recreation and Park District dedicated this space to commemorate the cannery's historical significance and the contributions of Hayward residents to its success.
The park's main attraction is its splash pad, which operates seasonally from late May through early September. The splash pad features water fountains emerging from the ground, squirt cannons, and other interactive water elements. During the summer months, the water area is typically open daily from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm, providing a refreshing respite for visitors.
Adjacent to the splash pad is a rope climbing playground, offering children opportunities for physical activity and adventure. The park also includes a small skate park with two bowls, catering to skateboarding enthusiasts.
Cannery Park encompasses large playing fields that are often frequented by geese. These open spaces are suitable for various sports and recreational activities. The park also features basketball courts and areas designated for baseball, softball, and soccer.
For those seeking relaxation or social gatherings, the park provides barbecue facilities and picnic tables. Restroom facilities are available on-site for visitor convenience.
Parking is readily available, with a lot located in front of the park, making it easily accessible to visitors.
