About Los Angeles High Memorial Park in Los Angeles
LA High Memorial Park is a small, one-hectare park located in Los Angeles, California. Situated across from Los Angeles High School in the southeastern corner of Midtown's Brookside neighborhood, this unstaffed park holds historical significance.
The park was established in 1922 when a group of students from Los Angeles High School purchased a parcel of land to dedicate to the memory of twenty students who had died during World War I. In 1923, an adjacent parcel was acquired by students and alumni, expanding the park's area.
One of the park's notable features is the Tudor-style Memorial Branch Library, designed by the architectural firm of Austin & Ashley. The library, which opened on April 29, 1930, is located within the park grounds and features beautiful stained glass windows crafted by the Garvanza-based Judson Art Studio.
The park boasts a collection of mature trees dating back to the time of its dedication. These trees represent several species and contribute to the park's serene atmosphere. In the western section of the park, visitors will find a large jungle gym, which was dedicated in 2013.
LA High Memorial Park serves as a popular gathering spot for people of all ages and diverse backgrounds. Visitors can often be seen engaging in various activities such as playing, reading, picnicking, and enjoying the outdoor space.
