About Ontario Town Square in Ontario
Ontario Town Square is a 1.77-acre park located in the heart of downtown Ontario, California. Built and owned by the City of Ontario, it serves as a community gathering space and provides the city's historic downtown and surrounding neighborhoods with their first dedicated park area.
The park is designed with a diagonal view corridor and pedestrian promenade that extends from the southwest corner at Euclid Avenue to the northeast corner at Lemon Avenue, offering a view of the Ovitt Family Community Library. This promenade is flanked by 8-foot high monuments at both entrances, creating a welcoming portal into the park.
Ontario Town Square features several distinct areas, including an open-air amphitheater with a sprawling lawn area for seating, a children's play garden, and a palm court. The park also includes future spaces for restaurant patios and related uses, enhancing its versatility as a community space.
A notable feature of the park is the 34-foot history wall adjacent to the clock tower. This tile mural captures the history and community spirit of Ontario, providing visitors with a visual connection to the city's past.
The park's design incorporates sustainable elements, including drought-tolerant and California native landscaping, as well as permeable walking pathways. These features, funded in part by a State Urban Greening Projects Grant, contribute to the park's environmental friendliness and align with the state's environmental goals.
Throughout the year, Ontario Town Square hosts various community events, including live concerts, movies in the park, markets, and holiday celebrations, making it a vibrant center of community life in Ontario.
