About Granite Park in Sacramento
Granite Regional Park is a substantial 80.45-acre recreational area located in southeastern Sacramento, California. The park, situated at 8181 Cucamonga Avenue off Power Inn Road, offers a diverse range of facilities and activities for visitors of all ages.
The park's history is rooted in its former use as a gravel mine. After Granite Construction Company concluded its mining operations, the land was turned over to the City of Sacramento. Subsequently, local development firms purchased portions of the site for office buildings, and in return, they paid city fees to fund park improvements.
A standout feature of Granite Regional Park is its impressive 45,000 square-foot skate park, one of the largest in the country. Designed by award-winning skate park designer Wally Hollyday with input from local skaters, it includes both bowls and a street course. The park boasts eight bowls ranging from novice to expert levels, with depths varying from three to fifteen feet. The street course winds through the park and includes a large plaza area with various features such as granite, steel, and concrete edging, boxes, stairs, and rails.
The park also caters to sports enthusiasts with its multiple soccer fields, including three grass fields and one all-weather turf field. These facilities make Granite Regional Park a popular venue for local soccer clubs and recreational leagues.
For dog owners, the park offers a dedicated dog park where pets can socialize and exercise off-leash. Other recreational amenities include a horseshoe pit and various picnic areas, some of which are covered, providing options for both small and large gatherings.
Granite Regional Park's landscape includes a lake, turf areas, and walkways, offering visitors opportunities for leisurely strolls and nature appreciation. The park's design incorporates both active recreational spaces and more passive, natural areas, making it a versatile destination for the community.
