Robert Matsui Waterfront Park

Robert T. Matsui Waterfront Park is a 6.5-acre public park located along the Sacramento River in Sacramento, California. The park, named after former Sacramento-area Congressman Robert T. Matsui, serves as a connection between the new railyards development, the Old Sacramento Waterfront, and the I Street Bridge.

The park features an expanded river levee, which has been widened to enhance views of the Sacramento River from various locations within the park. An arc-shaped pedestrian walkway traverses the site, linking the plaza at the Sacramento River Intake Structure to a smaller pedestrian overlook at the former water intake pier.

Between the levee and the pedestrian walkway lies the "River Green," an open space area planted with native grasses, trees, and vegetation. This area provides visitors with opportunities for picnicking, resting, and enjoying views of the river.

The park is also home to the Hanami Line, a community space inspired by the Japanese tradition of hanami, where people gather under blossoming cherry trees to celebrate nature. This project, completed in 2023, includes over 100 cherry trees, public art, native and drought-tolerant landscaping, efficient irrigation and lighting, and an area to host community events and festivals.
