About Central Park in Salinas

Central Park in Salinas, California is a 52-acre urban park. The park is divided into two main sections by Saratoga Creek. The western portion of the park contains various facilities for community use and recreation. This area includes group and individual picnic areas, a children's playground, public restrooms, an amphitheater, parking lots, two lighted tennis courts, basketball courts, and a Veterans Memorial. A prominent feature of this section is the 30,000 square foot Community Recreation Center, which serves as a hub for the city's recreational programs.

The eastern side of Central Park, across Saratoga Creek, houses several notable facilities. It is home to the George F. Haines International Swim Center, known for its world-class status. The Bob Fatjo Sports Center, which includes the Tony Sanchez Field (named after a former Parks & Recreation Department Sports/Aquatics Coordinator) and a second lighted softball field, is also located in this section. Additionally, the eastern area features the Santa Clara Tennis Center with 8 lighted tennis courts and a practice wall.

Central Park also offers ample open space, a lake, large group picnic areas, additional parking, public restrooms, a lawn bowling green, and an exercise course. The Central Park Library is situated within this section of the park as well.

On designated holidays, Central Park displays 57 United States flags along Kiely Blvd. These 9' x 6' flags, donated by Mission City Community Fund with funds provided by Veterans of Foreign Wars, create an impressive "Avenue of Flags" display.

The park serves as a central gathering place for the community, offering a diverse range of recreational opportunities and green spaces for residents and visitors to enjoy.
