Perris Hill Park

Perris Hill Park, located in San Bernardino, California, is the largest park in the city, spanning 64.4 acres. The park has a rich history dating back to the early 20th century when the area was first designated for public use. In 1910, the hill within the park was named "Perris Hill" as a tribute to Fred T. Perris, a member of the city's Board of Water Commissioners.

The park offers panoramic views of the San Bernardino Valley and surrounding mountains, making it a popular destination for both locals and visitors. One of its notable features is a 10-million-gallon underground water reservoir hidden within Perris Hill itself, showcasing the area's importance in local water management.

Throughout its history, Perris Hill Park has been a center for various recreational activities. It has hosted Major League and Minor League baseball teams, with the Pittsburgh Pirates using it as their spring training camp in the 1930s. The park was also a national hotbed for tennis from the 1930s through the 1980s, with several tennis Hall of Famers playing on its courts.

The Roosevelt Bowl, an outdoor amphitheater within the park, was dedicated in 1935 in honor of President Franklin D. Roosevelt. This venue has been used for a wide range of events, including high school graduations, concerts, theater productions, and Easter sunrise services.

In recent years, the park has undergone some updates to meet changing community needs. For example, in December 2020, two of the western tennis courts were converted into eight pickleball courts, reflecting the growing popularity of this sport.
