About Sweetwater Heights Park in San Diego

Sweetwater Heights Park is located in National City, California, near San Diego. This picturesque park offers a serene and well-maintained environment for visitors seeking outdoor recreational activities. The park is situated near E Street and Bay Boulevard, adjacent to the Living Coast Discovery Center and Sun Outdoors San Diego Bay RV resort.

Designed with community input, Sweetwater Heights Park is envisioned as a natural habitat-oriented recreational open space. It aims to showcase the unique natural wildlife assets of San Diego Bay while encouraging passive recreation activities that complement the adjacent Sweetwater Marsh National Wildlife Refuge.

Spanning 21 acres, Sweetwater Heights Park is part of the larger Chula Vista Bayfront redevelopment project. It is set to be the first new park space completed in this initiative and will become the Port of San Diego's 23rd park along San Diego Bay. The park's design draws inspiration from both nature and history, with elements honoring the area's wildlife, habitat, and the ancestral lands of the Kumeyaay People.

Construction of Sweetwater Heights Park began in October 2023, with an anticipated opening to the public in late 2024. The park is being built just north of the Gaylord Pacific Resort and Convention Center, which is currently under construction.
