About Mission Playground in San Francisco
Mission Playground Park is a vibrant community hub located in the heart of San Francisco's Mission District. Spanning nearly 100,000 square feet, this urban oasis offers a diverse range of recreational facilities and open spaces for residents and visitors to enjoy.
The park features the only public outdoor pool in San Francisco, making it a focal point for the neighborhood, especially during warmer months. In addition to the pool, Mission Playground boasts a variety of sports facilities, including tennis courts, a basketball court, and a soccer field with synthetic turf.
For families with children, the park provides a modern playground area and a water play feature, offering entertainment and relief on hot days. The open lawn areas provide space for picnics, relaxation, and casual games, while shaded seating areas offer spots to rest and socialize.
In 2012, Mission Playground underwent a significant $7.5 million renovation. This project focused on preserving and enhancing the park's diverse activities, aesthetic appeal, comfort, and safety. Improvements included increased natural lighting in the clubhouse, upgraded play areas, resurfaced athletic courts, enhanced park accessibility, and the addition of artist-designed fence panels at the park entry.
The park is located near 19th and Linda streets, bordering Valencia Street, making it easily accessible to the surrounding community. Its proximity to family housing ensures that it serves as a vital recreational space for local residents.
