About Julliard Park in Santa Rosa
Juilliard Park is one of Santa Rosa's oldest parks, located in the heart of downtown Santa Rosa, California. The park spans 9.09 acres and offers a blend of natural beauty, historical significance, and recreational facilities.
Originally the site of the Juilliard Family home, the park was gifted to the city in 1931 by Frederic Juilliard after he moved to New York. The park's design, created by Oakland landscape architect Howard Gilkey (who grew up in Santa Rosa), was developed during the Depression era as a government project.
Juilliard Park features old trees that provide ample shade, creating a pleasant environment for visitors. The park's landscape includes a pond with a fountain, adding to its scenic appeal. Stone bridges and walkways, constructed using rock from the Kenwood quarries, enhance the park's aesthetic charm and provide interesting paths for strolls.
The park plays a significant role in Santa Rosa's cultural life. It hosts the annual Live at Juilliard Summer Concert Series, a free, family-friendly event that takes place every Sunday from late July to the end of August. This popular event showcases local bands specializing in original music, contributing to the city's vibrant arts scene.
Juilliard Park is part of the eclectic and historic downtown Santa Rosa area, known for its walkability and quirky flair. It's situated near other points of interest such as Railroad Square and the Santa Rosa Plaza, making it a central feature of the city's urban landscape.
