About Primos Park in Boulder
Primos Park is a public park located on Violet Avenue between Broadway and 19th Street in Boulder, Colorado. This nine-acre site is an important neighborhood park serving residents in North Boulder and has been a priority for development by the city's Parks and Recreation department.
The park is situated near the Fourmile Canyon Creek and is connected to major streets and routes in the area. Primos Park is designed with a focus on nature-based elements to address flooding, increase biodiversity, and support pollinator pathways and wildlife movement.
In 2024, the City of Boulder officially named the park "Primos Park." This Spanglish name was shaped entirely by neighbors and embodies cultural values expressed by the community. The park is being developed with input from local families and community members, who previously often overlooked the space, unaware it was open for public use.
Primos Park is set to become Boulder's first fully accessible park, with development plans including accessible stairways and other features to ensure inclusivity for all visitors. The park has already hosted neighborhood picnics and creative activities, such as butterfly net sharing and bug community construction, as part of community engagement efforts.
The park's development is part of a larger initiative to improve park access and routes in the area. The City of Boulder, in collaboration with organizations like Growing Up Boulder, has been working on making the park and its surroundings more accessible and enjoyable for the community, especially for children and families.
