About Traverse Park in Fort Collins
Traverse Park is a new neighborhood park located in the Trail Head neighborhood of Fort Collins, Colorado. Situated on East Vine Street, this park offers a variety of features for local residents and visitors to enjoy. The park was developed on the site of the former Hartshorn Tree Farm, where many of the trees that line Mountain Avenue and Old Town Fort Collins were originally grown.
The park's design incorporates an activity spine as a central organizing element, creating numerous encounters for visitors including seating areas, building walls, and play elements. A loop trail encircles the park, providing opportunities for daily walks and exercise. One unique feature of the park is the "Neighborhood Hammock," created by Art in Public Places artist Joe McGrane, which serves as a social gathering space along the loop trail.
Traverse Park offers scenic views of Long's Peak and the nearby foothills, making it an attractive location for outdoor recreation and relaxation. The park's layout includes a mix of open spaces and developed amenities to cater to various recreational needs and age groups.
Construction of Traverse Park began in spring 2021, with the park officially opening to the public on July 14, 2022. The development of this park is part of the City of Fort Collins' ongoing efforts to provide quality outdoor spaces for its residents and to strike a balance between passive and active recreational opportunities within walking distance of homes.
