About Dovetail Park in Fort Collins
Dovetail Park is a newly opened 6-acre neighborhood park located in Fort Collins, Colorado. Situated near the Rigden Farm and Bucking Horse neighborhoods, the park officially opened to the public in Fall 2023 after several years of planning and construction.
The park is designed with a focus on providing diverse recreational activities and amenities for residents of all ages. It features separated character zones, including a Natural Drainage Zone with a variety of plants for water quality treatment, an Activity Terrace and Promenade with interactive elements, and a sunken open space called The Green for sports and gatherings.
Dovetail Park incorporates sustainable design elements, including native vegetation buffers and a rich diversity of plants in the Natural Drainage Zone. The park's layout includes walking paths that connect to the Bucking Horse neighborhood's internal walks and will eventually link to the future adjacent Poudre River Trail.
Art is also integrated into the park design. Through the City of Fort Collins Art in Public Places program, artist Joshua Wiener created sculptural groupings near the park entrances. These steel beam sculptures, designed to appear as if emerging from the earth, change in appearance as visitors move through the space, creating a unique visual experience.
The park's design emphasizes connectivity and accessibility, with paths suitable for walkers and runners circling the perimeter. Its variety of amenities caters to different interests and age groups, making it a versatile community space for recreation, relaxation, and social gatherings.
