About Runyan Field in Pueblo
Runyon Field Sports Complex is a historic baseball and softball facility located in Pueblo, Colorado. Established in 1934, it is the oldest ballpark in Pueblo and has served as a regional hub for youth and amateur baseball for decades.
The complex spans approximately 14.3 acres and features multiple baseball and softball fields to accommodate various age groups and skill levels. The main field, named after Oneal Hobbs, a former Pueblo Chieftain colleague of Damon Runyon, was renovated and expanded in 1995. Other fields include Corsentino, Salas, DiIorio, and Andenucio, each designed for different age divisions.
Runyon Field is named after Damon Runyon, a renowned sportswriter and author who grew up in Pueblo. Runyon began his career at the Pueblo Chieftain in 1910 before moving to New York, where he gained fame for his sports journalism and short stories.
The complex hosts numerous tournaments throughout the year, including the annual Father's Day "Nuch" tournament, named after Anthony Andenucio, a local baseball advocate. This event attracts talented teams from across the country.
Runyon Field Sports Complex continues to serve as the primary facility for high school and youth baseball and softball programs in southeastern Colorado. Its location and Pueblo's climate allow for a longer playing season compared to other areas in the state, making it a popular venue for regional tournaments.
