About Cove Island Park in Stamford
Cove Island Park is an 83-acre public park and recreation area located on Long Island Sound in Stamford, Connecticut. The park features two sandy beaches along the coastline as well as diverse natural habitats including salt marshes, mudflats, a pond, grasslands, and wooded areas.
A paved 1-mile walking and running trail loops around the perimeter of the park, offering scenic water views. The park contains playgrounds, picnic areas, and sports facilities including volleyball courts. A marina and boat launch ramp provide access for small boats and kayaks to explore the coastline.
The park serves as an important ecological area, recognized as an Important Bird Area by the Audubon Society. Over 280 species of birds have been documented in the park, along with diverse butterfly species. A wildlife sanctuary area within the park protects sensitive habitats.
Cove Island Park has a long history as a recreational destination for Stamford residents dating back to the early 20th century. Today it remains a popular spot for swimming, sunbathing, picnicking, fishing, boating, bird watching, and other outdoor activities. The park is open year-round from sunrise to sunset.
