About John J. Boccuzzi Park in Stamford
John J. Boccuzzi Park is a 12-acre coastal park located in the Waterside neighborhood of Stamford, Connecticut. The park offers visitors access to Long Island Sound and various recreational facilities.
Originally known as Southfield Park, it was renamed in 2011 to honor John Boccuzzi, a longtime Waterside resident and member of the Board of Representatives for over 40 years. Boccuzzi was a lifelong Waterside resident who graduated from Stamford High School in 1941 and served with the U.S. Army's 44th tank battalion in World War II.
The park features a soft golden sand beach approximately 0.25 miles long, suitable for relaxing and sunbathing. In recent years, the city has undertaken efforts to renovate and improve the park. A major overhaul project began in 2024, with the city having already spent over $3 million on the first phase of improvements.
SoundWaters, an environmental education organization, has a long-term lease with exclusive rights to the marina and plans to eventually build a permanent facility with classroom space and other amenities. The organization offers various educational programs and activities for local youth, including sailing lessons.
