Rose Park

Rose Park is a public recreational area located in the historic Georgetown neighborhood of Washington, D.C. Established in 1918, the park spans several blocks between P Street NW and M Street NW, bounded by 26th and 27th Streets on the west and Rock Creek Park on the east.

Originally created to serve African American children during the era of segregation, Rose Park has evolved into an integrated community space that reflects the diverse history of Georgetown. The park was initially known by various names, including Patterson's Park and Jacob's Park, before officially becoming Rose Park.

In the 1930s and 1940s, Rose Park gained recognition as one of the first officially integrated playgrounds in Washington, D.C. It played a significant role in the local community, hosting various recreational activities and serving as a practice ground for notable tennis players like Margaret and Roumania Peters, who went on to achieve success in professional tennis.

Today, Rose Park continues to be a vital green space in Georgetown, offering a range of facilities for sports, recreation, and community gatherings. The park is jointly managed by the DC Department of Parks and Recreation and the National Park Service, ensuring its preservation and accessibility for future generations.
