About Sugarwood Park in Miami
Sugarwood Park is a neighborhood park located in Miami, Florida. The park spans 7.8 acres and offers a variety of recreational facilities for local residents. It is situated behind Claude Pepper Elementary School, providing easy access for students and families in the area.
The park features a lighted walkway, allowing visitors to enjoy strolls or jogs even during evening hours. For sports enthusiasts, there is a basketball court where people can engage in friendly games or practice their skills. Younger visitors can enjoy the children's playground, which provides a safe and fun environment for play.
In February 2020, Sugarwood Park received a significant upgrade with the installation of a new fitness court. This addition was made possible through a collaboration between Miami-Dade County Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces Department, County Commissioner Joe A. Martinez, the Parks Foundation of Miami-Dade, and the AvMed Outdoors program. The fitness court includes five pieces of easy-to-use, low-impact gym equipment designed for cardio and strength training. It is accessible via stairs and an ADA-compliant ramp, making it inclusive for visitors with different mobility needs.
The park also incorporates environmentally friendly features. These include gardens that collect rainwater from surrounding pavement and recycle it back into the ground, trees that provide shade and help cool the air, and drought-tolerant plants. These elements contribute to the park's sustainability and create a pleasant, green space for visitors to enjoy.
Sugarwood Park is open from sunrise to sunset, allowing community members to make use of its facilities throughout the day. The park offers ample street parking along its entrance, making it convenient for visitors arriving by car.
