About Legion Park in Miami
Legion Park is a 37-acre public park located in Miami, Florida, situated within the historic MiMo District along Biscayne Boulevard. The park was established in 1966 when the American Legion sold a portion of their land to the City of Miami.
The park features a mix of open green spaces, recreational facilities, and historical structures. One of its most notable features is the Tee House, a coral stone building that serves as a community center. This structure is the last remaining example of Lemon City's early 20th-century waterfront houses and has a colorful history, having served various purposes including as a speakeasy and nightclub.
Legion Park offers visitors a range of outdoor activities and amenities. It includes sports facilities such as basketball courts and a football field. The park also has a dedicated dog park area where pets can play off-leash, complete with a drinking fountain for dogs.
For water enthusiasts, the park provides access to Biscayne Bay with a boat ramp. Visitors can also enjoy picnic areas with tables and barbecue facilities, making it an ideal spot for family outings. The park features outdoor gym equipment for fitness enthusiasts and a playground for children.
Recently, the park has undergone improvements, including the reconstruction of its community center. The refurbished facility was opened to the public in December 2024, enhancing the park's ability to serve the local community.
Legion Park also hosts a weekly farmers market, adding to its appeal as a community gathering space. The park's location offers visitors scenic views of Biscayne Bay, Bird Key, and Legion Picnic Islands, making it a popular spot for both recreation and relaxation.
