Pioneer Park

Pioneer Park is a small public park located in downtown St. Petersburg, Florida at the corner of Central Avenue and Beach Drive Southeast. The park honors the early settlers and founders of St. Petersburg.

The centerpiece of Pioneer Park is a 20-foot tall obelisk monument designed by landscape architect Charles R. Wedding and his son Robert Wedding. Four bronze plaques on the monument contain the names of 600 residents who lived in the St. Petersburg area before January 1, 1912 and made significant contributions to building the city prior to November 24, 1924.

The park provides a quiet green space along St. Petersburg's waterfront, offering benches and shaded areas where visitors can relax and enjoy views of the marina across the street. Its central downtown location makes it a convenient spot to take a break while exploring the surrounding shops, restaurants and attractions.

Pioneer Park was dedicated in 1981 after being initiated by Jay B. Starkey Sr., the son of St. Petersburg pioneers. The Pioneer Park Foundation was established to oversee the park's maintenance and preservation. A major revitalization of the park was completed in 2012.
