About Lafayette Heritage Trail Park in Tallahassee
Lafayette Heritage Trail Park is a public park located on the east side of Tallahassee, Florida. The park offers a variety of outdoor recreational opportunities centered around its trail system and natural features.
The main attraction is the Lafayette Heritage Trail, a shared-use path that winds through woodlands and connects Lafayette Heritage Trail Park to neighboring Tom Brown Park. This trail curves around Piney Z Lake, providing scenic views and access to fishing piers. Visitors can observe local wildlife such as turtles, alligators, and various bird species along the trail and lakeshores.
In addition to the main shared-use trail, the park contains separate mountain biking trails and a paddling trail for canoes and kayaks. A pedestrian bridge over the CSX railroad tracks on the eastern end of the park connects to the J.R. Alford Greenway, expanding the available trail network.
The park entrance is located at the end of Heritage Park Boulevard in the Piney Z Plantation subdivision. Near the entrance, visitors will find parking, picnic shelters, a playground, restrooms, and drinking fountains. The trailhead area includes a bike wash station and information kiosks.
Lafayette Heritage Trail Park is part of a larger connected green space in Tallahassee that includes Tom Brown Park to the west, L. Kirk Edwards Wildlife Management Area to the east, and J.R. Alford Greenway to the north. This creates an extensive natural area for recreation and wildlife habitat within the city limits.
