Jack L. McLean Junior Park

Jack L. McLean Jr. Park is a 52-acre recreational facility located in Tallahassee, Florida. The park is named after former City Commissioner Jack L. McLean, Jr., who was instrumental in acquiring and developing the former Southside Park.

The park offers a variety of active and passive recreation facilities for visitors. At its center is a 20,386 square foot recreation center, which includes a large air-conditioned gymnasium, a weight room, and multi-purpose rooms used for meetings, classes, and teen activities.

One of the park's main attractions is its aquatics complex. The complex features a beach-like zero-depth entry pool with in-pool play equipment and a 22-foot high water slide. Additionally, there is a 25-yard, 8-lane pool suitable for lap swimming, water aerobics, swim lessons, and open swimming. A 3,949 square foot bathhouse provides shower facilities, office space, and a lifeguard control area.

For sports enthusiasts, the park offers four basketball courts, two tennis courts, and a 24-hole disc golf course. The disc golf course is particularly noteworthy, as it challenges players of all skill levels with varied elevation changes, which is unusual for Florida terrain.

The park also caters to families and picnickers with five covered picnic shelters equipped with grills. For those who enjoy outdoor activities, there are two bike trails within the park.

Jack L. McLean Jr. Park Community Center was dedicated on November 3, 2004, and holds the distinction of being the first full project completed with the City's 10 percent share of revenue generated by the citizen-approved Blueprint 2000 sales tax extension fund.
