Pendleton King Park is a 64-acre public park located in the heart of Augusta, Georgia. The park was originally donated by the King family and designated as a bird sanctuary. It offers a diverse landscape featuring pine forests, sand ridges, and marshes, providing a habitat for various bird species and other wildlife.
The park's topography is quite varied, with elevation changes of over 100 feet throughout its expanse. This variation allows for a wide array of plant life, including numerous tree species, shrubs, and native flowers. The park is home to several gardens, including camellia gardens, a hydrangea garden, and a sensory garden.
Pendleton King Park includes several water features. Lake Elizabeth, a small spring-fed lake named after Pendleton King's mother, is home to ducks and turtles. The park also contains wetlands fed by a series of springs, which historically contributed to Augusta's early drinking water supply.
For recreation, the park offers an 18-hole disc golf course that winds through both open and wooded areas. There are nature trails for walking and cycling, as well as cross-country trails. The park also features playgrounds, tennis courts, and pickleball courts for visitors to enjoy.
