Amerson River Park

Amerson River Park is a 180-acre urban park located in Macon, Georgia. Situated along the Ocmulgee River, the park features pristine forests, meadows, and wetlands surrounded by a river oxbow. Formerly the site of a Macon Water Authority treatment plant, the facility was destroyed in the flood of 1994. The park was subsequently renovated and reopened to the public in 2015 after $5.5 million in improvements.

The park offers visitors scenic views of the Ocmulgee River from several high bluffs. It contains 3.5 miles of paved trails and 0.75 miles of mulch trails for walking, running, and biking. At the north end of the park, there is a canoe launch on the Ocmulgee River. Visitors can enjoy a 2-mile tubing float from the Jay Hall Memorial Canoe Launch to the Bragg Jam Canoe and Tube Takeout.

Amerson River Park features multiple picnic areas and pavilions overlooking the river, including the Overlook, Bluff, and Atlanta Gas Light (AGL) Pavilions. The park also boasts a state-of-the-art playground that is accessible to children of all physical abilities.

The park is part of the larger Ocmulgee Heritage Trail network, though it is not yet connected to the downtown section of trails. Amerson River Park is recognized as the beginning of the Ocmulgee River Water Trail, a 200-mile section of river that ends at the confluence of the Oconee river where it becomes the Altamaha.

Amerson River Park is open seven days a week from 7:30 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. during daylight savings hours. Admission to the park is free.
