Dixon Park

Dixon Park is a small public park located at the intersection of East Broad Street and Henry Street in Savannah, Georgia. The park sits on approximately 0.1 acres of land in the Dixon Park neighborhood, which is part of the larger Victorian Historic District.

Historically, Dixon Park has been a source of racial tensions in Savannah. In the early 1900s, it was considered a "Black" park by the city, much to the dismay of some white neighbors. The park was frequently at the center of disputes between Black and white residents living in the surrounding areas. In 1921, Black neighbors petitioned the City Council to formally designate it as a Black playground for youth, citing harassment of Black children using the park. However, the council took no action on this request.

Despite its small size, Dixon Park has played a significant role in the social and cultural fabric of the neighborhood. It continues to serve as a local green space for residents of the Victorian District, providing a small area for recreation and community gatherings.
