About Riverpoint in Chicago

River Point Park, located at the confluence of the Chicago River and its branches in downtown Chicago, is a 1.5-acre public green space offering the largest riverfront park in the heart of the city. Positioned adjacent to the River Point building on Lake Street, the park serves as part of Chicago's ongoing effort to revive its riverfront with expanded public access and innovative green spaces. It was designed by the Office of James Burnett, a celebrated landscape architecture firm.

This terraced park is built on a structure that conceals active Amtrak rail lines beneath, turning an industrial site into an urban oasis. The park features a central event lawn facing the river, botanical gardens, and decomposed granite courtyards. Extensive seating areas are available on both the riverwalk and plaza levels, providing visitors with opportunities to relax and enjoy the views. The landscaping showcases native plants, botanical gardens, and a variety of trees, contributing to sustainable design and enhancing the aesthetic appeal of the space.

River Point Park is seamlessly integrated with Chicago's Riverwalk, adding 560 feet of new pathways that connect to other sections of the riverfront. A standout feature of the park is the *Constellation*, a circular red sculpture by Spanish-Swiss architect Santiago Calatrava, which serves as a visual focal point. The park also incorporates sound walls at its northern end, designed to mitigate noise from the underlying rail lines.

The park is accessible from Lake Street and Canal Street, and it operates as a publicly accessible space, welcoming visitors from all over the city. Designed with sustainability in mind, the park utilizes rainwater harvesting for its irrigation needs, further contributing to its environmentally friendly footprint.
