Shedd Park

Shedd (John G.) Park is a small public park located in the South Lawndale community of Chicago, Illinois. The park totals 1.30 acres in size and features both indoor and outdoor recreational facilities.

At the center of the park stands a fieldhouse, which contains a gymnasium and an upstairs auditorium. These indoor spaces allow for year-round activities and programming. The fieldhouse was designed in the Prairie School style by architect William Drummond and constructed in 1917. In 1928, a Prairie School gymnasium addition was built, designed by the architectural firm of Michaelsen and Rognstad.

Outside, the park offers green space and a playground for children. The Chicago Park District provides various recreational programs at Shedd Park throughout the year, including after-school activities, sports instruction, and seasonal day camps. Many of these programs are offered free of charge to local youth and families.

The park is named after John G. Shedd, a Chicago entrepreneur and philanthropist who donated the land for the park. Shedd Park serves as an important recreational resource and community gathering place for residents of the South Lawndale neighborhood.
