Fairgrounds Park

Fairgrounds Park, located in Rockford, Illinois, is a community park steeped in history and offering a range of recreational opportunities. Spanning approximately 19.2 acres, the park is situated within the Rockford Park District and occupies a site with significant historical importance. Originally, this land served as the Winnebago County Agricultural Fairgrounds and hosted events such as fairs and baseball games in the mid to late 19th century. The grounds were home to the Forest Citys, a professional baseball team, during the inaugural season of the National Association in 1871. Over time, the area transitioned from its agricultural and sporting roots to become a public park under city ownership after 1904.

Today, Fairgrounds Park provides a green space for relaxation and play. It features a kids' playground equipped with swings and slides, catering to the recreational needs of families and children. Additionally, the park serves as a scenic spot for walking or hiking, thanks to its open layout and natural surroundings, including Kent Creek, which runs nearby.
